The story of innovation that began over a century ago
Shri Ramlal Golchha
Born in 1900 in Nawabganj, Rajasthan, Ramlal Golchha was a visionary entrepreneur from the Marwari community, renowned for their business acumen. His journey to Nepal would forever change the industrial landscape of the nation.
Before leaving for Biratnagar, Nepal, in search of new opportunities, Ramlal made a sacred promise to his people: no matter where his journey took him, he would return and settle any outstanding matters in his hometown—a testament to his integrity and character.
The Vision
Ramlal Golchha recognized that the Terai region, especially around Biratnagar, had ideal conditions for jute cultivation—humid climate, rich alluvial soil, and flat terrain. He envisioned an industry that would process jute locally.
Before the mill's establishment, raw jute was exported to Indian mills. By setting up processing facilities in Nepal, Golchha aimed to retain value within the country and create employment opportunities for the local population.
The Journey
In the early 20th century, the Rana regime controlled Nepal's political and economic systems, restricting external influence and modernization.
In the early 1930s, Ramlal made a historic decision to walk from Biratnagar on foot to Kathmandu to present his industrial proposal. He successfully pitched the idea to the Rana rulers, proposing the establishment of factories, new industries, and a more interconnected economy to modernize Nepal.
1937: The Biratnagar Jute Mills
Nepal's first industrial establishment was born. This groundbreaking venture not only transformed the economic landscape but also set the foundation for modern industrial Nepal.
Journey Through Time
Evolution & Expansion
Ramlal Golchha's vision led to the growth of the Golchha family as one of Nepal's top industrial families. The Golchha Organisation, initially centered around the jute mill, expanded into textiles, trade, and eventually sectors like steel, construction, banking, and electronics.
As the 21st century approached, The Golchha Organisation was divided into independent branches, including the Golchha Group, RK Golchha Group, and Diwakar Golchha Organization. This strategic split allowed the family to explore new industries, such as media and technology, while continuing to maintain its presence in traditional sectors.
The Beginning of Moon Stone Productions
Carrying forward the family's legacy of innovation, Himshikha Golchha, a descendant of Ramlal Golchha, founded Moon Stone Productions.
This venture aims to revolutionize Nepal's creative industry by producing films and digital content that reflect diverse narratives—continuing the pioneering spirit that began with a single footstep from Biratnagar to Kathmandu.
